The Firm of Lyon and Lyon is a second generation family business. In 1955, James W. Lyon, Sr. began his practice of law on Main Street in Greenup. He practiced for twenty-two (22) years, then was elected as District Judge and later as Circuit Judge serving Greenup and Lewis counties. After a distinguished career, he retired in 1994.

James W. Lyon, Jr. was born and raised in Greenup County, Kentucky. After graduation from Russell High School, he obtained his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Kentucky, and his law degree from the UK College of Law in 1987. In November 1987, he began his law practice in the same building where his father practiced years before and continues the family legacy and tradition of quality in the practice of law.

Jimmy has a traditional small town practice with small town values. He has particular expertise in the areas of family law, divorce and custody cases. He also has a heavy concentration of criminal defense work. Aside from a general law practice, he has vast experience in court. He has had hundreds of trials by judge and jury. He has argued cases before the Kentucky Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the Eastern District Court of Kentucky. He has had numerous Administrative Law Hearings.

In addition to his litigation experience, Jimmy has served for over twenty-two (22) years as the attorney for Greenup County Schools, and has represented multiple cities in Greenup County.

Jimmy is also a respected and skilled mediator. He is highly regarded and well-liked by his colleagues, and is the immediate past President of the Greenup County Bar Association.

Jimmy has served his community in various endeavors. He is the past President of Russell-Flatwoods Little League and has volunteered with the Russell Middle School and Russell High School Academic Teams. He has served as a tutor at the Greenup County Adult Literacy Center.

Jimmy is married to Beverly, and is the father of two children, Andy and Claire.
